Interactive Widgets

Language Learning made easy

About the project

When Apple introduced Interactive Widgets at WWDC23, we saw an opportunity to rethink our widgets and make them more than static shortcuts on the Home Screen.

As a team, we wanted to go beyond translation and help users actually start learning new languages. So we designed a flashcard-style experience focused on beginner vocabulary. Simple, practical, and easy to use in everyday life.

We shaped the content based on user data and learning trends, curating essential words and categories for each language. To bring it all to life visually, we created custom illustrations that made the widgets feel friendly and engaging.

Illustrations

I worked with illustrator Arfa Khan on the illustrations, overseeing the development of the visuals from initial sketches to the final designs.

Button Placement

After a quick round of iteration, we decided to keep the interaction simple with one solid-white button to navigate through the cards. I placed it bottom-right for easy reach and better accessibility.
